Currently the FCC has the power to sanction network news outlets like CBS, ABC etc if they intentionally lie about a news story. BUT that does NOT apply to cable news meaning Fox News can keep LYING. FCC's powers must be expanded to cable news-My article: deanobeidallah.substack.com/p/

The Dean's Report by Dean Obeidallah · Here’s how we can stop Fox News from peddling more lies on airBy Dean Obeidallah

@DeanObeidallah This is stupid. Do you just get up every morning and think "what stupid shit can I spew today"?

@DeanObeidallah

Send in the Army. I checked, and they're not busy this weekend.

@DeanObeidallah I don't understand your comment. The FCC doesn't license networks unless those networks also run individual stations. It licenses TV and radio stations. See FCC.gov. "We license only individual broadcast stations. We do not license TV or radio networks (such as CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox) or other organizations that stations have relationships with, such as PBS or NPR, except if those entities are also station licensees." fcc.gov/media/radio/public-and.

@DeanObeidallah what does "sanction" actually do? Is it as toothless as our House Ethics Committee and other slapped wrist efforts (when they even bother).

The only thing they will respond to is MASSIVE fines or lawsuits costing them ten figure amounts.

@DeanObeidallah Sadly the Fox News business is reliant on the cable companies PAYING them to carry FNews on a basic tier. If the FNews audience had to pay to watch the network would dry up and die.

The situation now shields them when advertisers leave as they make most of their money from the fee the cable company has to pay them. Contact your cable company

Fox news is not on Canadian cable's basic tier because they are not considered a NEWS company and so did not qualify for basic cable
