Federal #Judge Denies #MarkMeadows, #JeffClark Bids To Stave Off #Arrest in #FultonCounty
US Dist Judge Steve C. Jones for the Northern Dist of #Georgia had heard separate requests from both fmr WH Chief of Staff Mark #Meadows & #Trump-era #DOJ crony #JeffreyClark for an emergency order that would stop them from having to report to #jail….
Jones #denied both, saying in both instances that it was premature for him to rule.
#Meadows… asked the judge to force the halt pending a separate request… to remove his case to #FederalCourt. (He) …argued that (his)… acts… were protected by his status… as a federal ofcl (#SupremacyClause), & that that protection should also protect him from #arrest while the case is pending.
Judge Jones denied that request, saying that he had not yet made any decision about Meadows’ case. Therefore, he ruled, the state #criminal process — including Meadows’ arrest — would have to go ahead.
Similarly, Jones ruled that #JeffreyClark’s case…could continue even as the #criminal process in #FultonCounty played out. The judge mentioned in his ruling that some #defendants who had made similar requests to have their cases moved to federal court had gone on to face #trial w/o the request being resolved.
The rulings all but guarantee that they will be booked this week. #FaniWillis set a deadline of noon this Fri for defendants to #surrender before #warrants went out for their #arrest.
