For crying out loud, like a drunk toddler & for seemingly no reason at all, #Trump has now reversed his #tariffs on #Canada.
Trump said Thurs that he would allow BOTH #Mexico & Canada to avoid tariffs on most exports to the #US for 1 month, specifically products subject to the #USMCA, the #trade pact he signed in his first term.
The move came less than a day after he granted a 30-day reprieve to #automakers, & hours after announcing a pause on Mexico’s tariffs.

#Ontario Premier #DougFord, …also said that, starting on Monday, the province will charge 25% more for #electricity shipped to 1.5M Americans in response to #Trump’s tariffs. Ontario provides electricity to #Minnesota, #NY & #Michigan.
The White House has released #Trump’s executive order on #Canada & #Mexico & the language makes clear that he is suspending the #tariffs — not pausing them. The order effectively abandons tariffs on goods that are covered by the #USMCA trade pact Trump signed into #law in his first term.

@Nonilex The DOW ended up dropping over 500 points in a little over an hour. Seems to be rebounding now, but wow what a day.
It also dropped 500 points immediately after opening this morning before rebounding, so the whole day looks like a roller coaster (still not sure what caused that initial drop).

I use a hosting service for my dbc3.com website, an email server where I manage some 30 or so accounts, some private "cloud" storage so i don't use google or meta.
It is located in Toronto. I got an email this morning that "to continue providing quality service," price is increasing - by 25%

Canada should respond to any pauses as if they're still in effect! The pause in February did huge damage to markets in both countries. This is not acceptable, the only time Canada should remove our retaliatory tariffs is after has permanently removed their's, anything else is just BS and mind games. The only game we should play with Trump is to see how long it takes the White House to burn to the ground!
Was it bluster or stupidity? Also, it might be important to note that the MAGA faithful probably loved his awesome show of king-like strength. And they are not going to pay attention to any further developments and will remain awestruck.

@Nonilex in a fit of lunacy i tried to skim through the subsection of chapters 98 and 99 to see what it's about, and i'm just not willing to follow all the references to other sections of the law to see what it means to be covered or not in each context, i guess i'll wait for mexico/canada response to see how big of a deal it is
