The #Trump admin on Fri pushed out Peter Marks, the nation’s top #vaccine regulator & an architect of the US program to rapidly develop #coronavirus #vaccines, a move that comes as #HHS Secy #RFKJr continues his *overhaul* [destruction] of the nation’s #health & #science agencies amid a worsening #US outbreak of #measles.
Marks, who joined the FDA in 2012 & had overseen its Center for Biologics Evaluation & Research since 2016, was offered the choice to resign or be fired….
He opted to resign.
“It has become clear that #truth & #transparency are not desired by the secretary [#RFKJr], but rather he wishes subservient confirmation of his #misinformation & #lies,” Dr. Marks wrote to Sara Brenner, the #FDA’s acting commissioner.
Hours earlier in WV, RFKJr asserted that #Covid did not kill healthy people, contrary to research showing that 30% of those who died early in the #pandemic did not have underlying conditions.

Biologics are some of the best modern treatments for cancer, autoimmune, and inflammatory diseases. They literally bring people back from the brink and allow them to live without the massive suffering associated with most chemotherapies. Driving away research interest like this only forces it outside the US, like stem cell research during the Bush administration. We can only hope they permit people to use what other countries develop (unless you're rich and well-connected of course).
