…The decision shows that #Musk's Department of Government *Efficiency*, which is directing the cuts, is not making the government more effective, said Kathleen Clark, a professor of #ethics at WashU in St. Louis.
"It is becoming increasingly obvious that Musk’s & #DOGE’s mission has absolutely nothing to do with efficiency, & instead is aimed at enabling Musk to use - & abuse - #power within the federal government," she said.
"Authorizing a #Musk-controlled agency like #OPM to hire a driver while slashing essential #FederalWorkers who actually help Americans in need is a good example."
The #Trump admin, #DOGE, Musk & Ezell did not respond to requests for comment. An OPM spox said in a statement that the agency "has ongoing security concerns" requiring a driver, w/o providing further detail.
…One of #Trump's first acts…was to create #DOGE, [supposedly] to root out waste, fraud & abuse, slash govt spending & purge the federal workforce of low-performing, *disloyal* & unnecessary workers.
…In practice,…DOGE has mostly pursued long-time #Republican #policy objectives, shuttering agencies such as #USAID & the #CFPB, which provide a lifeline to the world's needy & protect Americans from unscrupulous lenders respectively.
#DOGE also announced drastic cuts at depts that provide critical #SocialServices including #VeteransAffairs [#VA], which administers #healthcare for #veterans, & the #SocialSecurity Administration, which sends out checks to #retired, #disabled & #widowed Americans [money Americans put into the #SSA out of their own paychecks].
#OPM …has laid off >200 of its own employees & allowed >400 to *opt in* to *voluntary* exit programs since #Trump took office…

In my view, this drastic & stupid rampage of reduction to these service agencies is nothing but pure & intentional theft from American taxpayers. If services degrade to the point of complete ineffectiveness, where is the “savings?” For so many people, ONE delayed, incorrect or missing payment can result in eviction, overdraft charges, no money for food, utilities, Rx copays (all of which, not coincidentally, have been negatively impacted for consumers by MAGA-GOP’s cruel policies).

Yes, well, given Musk's track record, I can see where he'd be considered a security risk, and that is a valid concern.
Not sure how hiring a driver for him mitigates that risk, however.
