Can somebody hold my hand and guide me through following a #Bluesky account from Mastodon, using #BridgyFed? I'm already following bridgy and got a follow back from it, but I don't know how to proceed now. (I'm trying to follow Capital Weather Gang, @capitalweather.bsky.social without using a Bluesky account.)
You'd need to follow an account visible there as "capitalweather.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy", but I don't see it there, they probably haven't enabled the bridge themselves… you don't really need to have the bridge enabled to follow Bluesky accounts (though you do if you want them to see your replies)
But they need to follow the bridge to be visible on Mastodon. Bridgy author made it all opt-in, because people on Mastodon kinda harassed him into doing so… :\ I'll ping this account on this side to ask if they can turn on the bridge.
@mackuba.eu Thanks. I also sent an email to one of the guys on their team; no idea whether he has anything to do with social media, but it’s something.
@mackuba.eu I sent aDM to bridgy with the CWG account name, so I presume that means Bridgy will send a request to them to bridge their account. I can see their posts, which is the thing I want to do. Just don’t want to set up a Bluesky account.
@davewordnerd @mackuba.eu It sounds like did the right steps. As said above, they haven’t opted in. If the DM doesn’t work, you might try sending them an email and asking them to follow the bridge to increase their reach.
