Yes, I often use a side cast when space is limited above me. But, for this particular spot, the sky is open and enough room behind me, so, I can do a back cast, although a backhand cast is more appropriate for this spot.
@enog Sometimes fish for bass around docks where there's only about 2' between the dock and water, I try to skip my lure to get underneath where they hide. I'm not very good at it.
I assume that lures are quite heavy, which makes it difficult I frequently attempt to cast my line into narrow spaces beneath trees, but the fly often ends up on branches
