IBCSO<p>What is IBCSO? IBCSO is the International Bathymetric Chart of the Southern Ocean!<br />What do we do? We collect bathymetry data, South of 50° S.<br />What is bathymetry? Measuring the depth of the seabed.<br />How is it done? Ships using echo sounders. The depth is calculated by the time, the sound waves takes to propagate from the ship down to the ground and back to the ship. Satellites can measure the wave height and predict the depth of the seafloor below. Unfortunately, accurate mapping is a challenge. During that time the data engineers from <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/AWI" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AWI</span></a> bathymetry were involved in training young scientists. 78 GB of raw <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/bathymetry" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>bathymetry</span></a> data were acquired and cleaned.
