The world's top #chess federation has ruled that #transgender #women cannot compete in its official events for females until an assessment of #gender change is made by its officials.
The decision by #Switzerland-based federation #FIDE, which was published on Monday, has drawn criticism from advocacy groups and supporters of #TransgenderRights.

Which raises the question:
"Why are there separate chess competitions for males and females???"
@MugsysRapSheet @iuculano Most chess tournaments are open for everyone to participate. Women-only events were introduced as an attempt to combat the underrepresentation of female players. That being said, I don't see how allowing transgender people in these events would hurt.
