A question I need answered. Why do U Western folks eat rice with a fork? Is it cos it's unclassy to use a spoon? Is it because you like the physical and mental challenge? Is it because you need to slow down your consumption of the carb? Such a mystery
@liztai secondary question — why isn’t it more normal outside of SEA to eat rice meals with a spoon AND fork?
How do you push every grain of rice on your plate into your spoon?
My takeaway is that Americans just don’t clean their plates.
@jeromechoo I've always found a way to clean my plate, though rice and peas were tricky. A fork was easier for that than chopsticks.
(Now that I have neurological problems I just use a large bowl & soup spoon for everything. Am in awe of SEA two-utensil mastery )
Some of it is just what we're taught as kids, handed down through generations. Rice was more common in mine but what I learned came from older meat & potatoes generations and what was most efficient for them, so knives & forks
@emmaaum @jeromechoo @liztai this is what bread is for. To literally wipe your plate clean
@grumpasaurus @emmaaum @jeromechoo I usually just tip the plate into my mouth
@jeromechoo hahaha omg totally. Fork and spoon is the way to go!
