My recent thoughts on #H5N1 protocols:
Continue to mask everywhere, inside & out, unless in "personal safe space" (home & car)
Beef up hand sanitizing. I had eased up on this for #Covid as fomites seemed to be a lower vector of infection
Return to sanitizing items coming into my home (keys, phone). My baby bottle UV sanitizer is back in it's place by the door
Sanitize groceries, etc. (especially fruits & veg sold out in the open). My aqueous ozone bottle is my fav Covid splurge.
More #H5N1 thoughts:
Cut out dairy. I haven't been able to eat dairy anyway since #LongCovid (hard core arrhythmia after eating it) but parm has been fine.
Continue not eating eggs
I make my own dairy-free butter and sour cream and egg-free mayonnaise. I'll be sharing the recipes I use. Easy to make and passes my taste test (have you TRIED the store bought stuff??
) Added perk is they're all made with non-perishables so if you're isolating/quarantined/on lockdown, it's no problem!

Keep close eye on raw pet food recalls. Our 25 yr old cat eats raw.
Have plan ready to implement for letting dogs out to potty. For small dogs, you can keep them indoors and use puppy pads if outdoors becomes a high risk. Large dogs are more difficult. You can wear disposable shoe covers but almost impossible for a dog. Best thing I've come up with is a 10'x10' canopy tent with sides at door.
@justyourluck Just ordered a month of N95 masks. Still have plenty of other supplies. We use the N95 masks every time we are indoors in a public place.
@meltedcheese
That's a good deal! I used to use those before I switched to my Flomask. I'd watch the prices like one would watch the stock market and stocked up everytime people stopped masking so much (in the early years, not like now when practically everyone has stopped) and they'd get cheap.
@justyourluck I remember paying $75 for a box of 20. Maybe the low price is the hidden upside we’ve been looking for!
@justyourluck
I mean, if #H5N1 becomes (or has already become) human-to-human, it'll be airborne, like covid, but less contagious; existing covid precautions should be fine?
Additional non-covid things I think about:
Do you trust dairy pasteurization 100%?
Do you take precautions with eggs?
Are you comfortable eating medium cooked beef?
Do you take any precautions coming inside after walking outside where wild birds may have pooped?
Do you use eye protection since a lot of cases have conjunctivitis (possibly worse)?
Are you still taking protections against fomites? Are they more of a risk w/ #H5N1 than they were w/ #Covid?

@justyourluck chook house modified to allow keeping them inside away from wild birds. Water and food changed to keep away from wild birds. Special waterproof shoes for the chook yard. Not wearing outdoor shoes inside. Bought more masks, combined COVID,RSV, Flu tests. Have ordered a HOCl generator for sanitising. Already have air purifiers.
@justyourluck already have masks and sanitiser at each door for visitors. Plan to make verandah laundry and clothes changing zone because I work in retail. In Australia but habit changing takes time so starting early.
@vivianharris45
Good point about habit changing. I think no matter what each of our protocols (among us Covid cautious) are, I think it's safe to say we've been doing them for awhile so they are habits without thinking, maybe even becoming more lax on some of them like the fomites and sanitizing, etc
