If anyone is interested in a leather crossbody bag a vendor of products for the #Blind has on sale today please know you can get it for literally almost half the price on Amazon.com. I'm all for supporting people's businesses and have no problem with folks making a living but that markup is crazy to me.

Just had a wild tech support experience with @InnosearchAI , who run an online shopping platform made to be accessible for blind users. I wrote them with an issue I was having using the site with my screen reader, and they wrote back saying let's schedule a Zoom call so you can show us what's happening, and we'll give you $50 in credit on your account. And then that actually happened. The people on the call were very nice, and I sort of just don't know how to react to a tech company actually valuing my feedback as a screen reader user. Like valuing it with money. #blind #accessibility

Anyone tried an hdmi industrial camera on a lever-arm stand with a suitable lens as an #ElectronicMagnifier - and the image displayed on a suitable tv / monitor?

I can see everything I want on aliexpress - except for the lens.

Which lens is going to let me view around a A4 / foolscap area?

Most of these setups are being used as microscopes with lenses giving around 150X magnification. Far too much for reading a book.

@hzulla @Fuchskind And that #blind kid who got told "don't do X thing, people will think you're autistic" may have *actuallyautistic@a.gup.pe* been autistic. Not all #blindAutistics necessarily look like the classic autistic look either. Some of us look perfectly normal, and believe me when I say that some of us normal-looking #blind #autistics have spent a *bunch* of energy maintaining that normal appearance because it was expected, but are paying for it now.

I've noticed that, in more recent documentaries, there seems to be a tendency toward not only informality and a horrible lack of RP in both the narrators and the audiodescribers (most of these shows are from the BBC), but toward adding the experience of the cameramen, narrators, etc. I don't mean at the end, where they explain how they filmed a particular sequence, but throughout an entire documentary. Sometimes, it makes sense and is interesting. But sometimes, it's distracting, especially when I just want to be immersed in the world of nature. Fortunately, I found an older series, called Walking with Beasts, that I hadn't watched yet. In the version that I have from Audiovault, both the narrator and the describer speak in a beautiful form of RP. It is such a relief to hear such wonderful speech. If anyone can recommend a narrator or audio describer whom I would appreciate, either from the past or the present, I would sincerely appreciate it. Sadly, the few good describers I found don't ever say their names, so I have no idea who they are.

I want to see them *prove* it was #Luigi.

I'm #blind, but my kid that served in the #Army says Luigi does *not* look like the man in the #video. I've also seen people #online saying that.

I have a #jury summons for later this week. I've been an alternate in the past.I was also part of a pool that couldn't seat a jury. That time, it was a #criminal case, and the defense attorney said something that I will always remember.

The gis is that when a defendant gets off on a technicality, that is a euphemism for the prosecution not being able to make the case without violating the defendant's #rights.

That's really important. The #Constitution is not a technicality. It is what protects us from #Government overreach.

Hi, I have a question for the #Gaming #Programming, and #Modding communities. Is there any way, if I gave people the ISO file, to go into Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2's files and add some sort of auto-fly button so that #Blind people like me could actually navigate through the map in the storymode? I've been wanting to play the storymode for years, and haven't been able to because we quite literally can not see where to go so we can play through the story. If there is any way to make this happen, I'll gladly post the files, and look forward to the modifications.

So I seem to be on a bit of an #AI testing kick. A non-critical product I needed (some replacement filters for an air purifier) was available at the best price from a website I really didn't want to deal with right now. So I put the order in via innosearch.ai. I'm mostly suspicious because the marketing is so polished; I've come to distrust well-marketed products. On the other hand, if innosearch makes it possible for me to spend less money on Amazon, and makes distributing my shopping dollars to other places more practical, it's a net ethical win. If I get entirely the wrong thing, or nothing at all, it won't break me. I'll keep this thread updated with my experiences. #innosearch #accessibility #blind

We live in a technologically advanced society. This has led to development of several technologies for blind people and specialized devices for blind people who have retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, age-induced macular degeneration etc. However, to make the world more inclusive for them, an additional layer of accessibility has to be achieved. For instance, access to basic schooling requires screen readers, magnification software, etc.

Beyond tech, what else is needed?

Any suggestions out there on a good way to turn PDFs into an audio file, or at the very least get the text extracted from them? I have a huge number to sort through one time solutions will be a challenge on time. Looking to turn these into audio MP3 files. Any help would be appreciated. #blind #accessibility #tech

Now that I've tried bluesky out for a bit, I'm honestly not sure what I think of it anymore.
I mean it does have some cool things like third-party app-support, the fedi-bridge, starter-packs etc, but only 300 characters with no way to upgrade is a major bummer!.
I'm on another mastodon-instance besides this one which has the mastodon-standard 500 character-limit.
Yeah 500 can also be very limiting, but at least you have 200 more characters than on bluesky, plus the ability to move to instances with larger limits if you want or need to.
