Sky - Your Infernal Majesty<p>Ich weiß, lange Texte sind im Fediverse nicht bei allen beliebt. Manche betonen immer wieder, das sei doch kein „Microblogging“ mehr. Aber mal ehrlich: Seit wann ist das Fediverse eine reine Microblogging-Plattform?<br>Ich kenne nicht alle Zugangssoftwares, aber soweit ich weiß, unterstützen zum Beispiel <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Sharkey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sharkey</span></a>, <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Misskey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Misskey</span></a>, <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Catodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Catodon</span></a>, <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Iceshrimp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Iceshrimp</span></a> und auch <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Friendica" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Friendica</span></a> lange Texte ganz wunderbar. Auch meine eigene <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a>-Instanz habe ich ordentlich aufgebohrt – mit ein paar tausend Zeichen, weil Mastodon ja leider immer noch an seinem 500-Zeichen-Limit festhält.</p><p>Und bitte versteht mich nicht falsch: Das ist kein Bashing gegen Mastodon! Es geht mir eher darum, den Blick dafür zu öffnen, dass das Fediverse viel mehr ist als nur ein Ort für Kurztexte. Es ist vielfältig, offen – ein Raum für alle möglichen Ausdrucksformen. Und dazu gehören eben auch längere Gedanken.</p><p>Neulich habe ich sogar gelesen, dass jemand alle Accounts blocken will, die lange Texte posten. Das hat mich echt irritiert. Warum diese Abwehr gegen Tiefe und Details? Ich persönlich liebe längere Texte – beim Schreiben ebenso wie beim Lesen. Sie geben mir die Möglichkeit, wirklich in Themen einzutauchen, mich auszudrücken, zu erzählen. </p><p>Das <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> lebt doch gerade von dieser Vielfalt, oder? The *key softwares are generally recommended if you want a lot of functions and a modern interface. I particularly like the Antennas / News Pickers, with which the content can be structured very well according to your own search terms (a kind of topic-specific timelines). Himself<p><span>So, I'm back at "where should I move this account?"<br><br>I thought Akkomane was the answer, unfortunately, it was not.<br>There wasn't any one deal breaker, but a few tiny ones that added up. <br><br>Namely: it doesn't work with Bridgy Fed, Thumbnails didn't appear when I shared links for some reason, and also it doesn't seem to be able to communicate with Wordpress sites that have the ActivityPub plugin.<br><br>So, I'm back to square one.<br><br>As a reminder: I want to leave Firefish for two reasons:<br>1. It's dead. While it's still working great, it will not receive anymore updates ever.<br>2. Its API doesn't work with many apps (I'd love to be able to use this account with Surf or OpenVibe and such, and I can't)<br><br>Part of me thinks about merging this account with my Mastodon account, but I don't know. I like having two accounts talking roughly about different things (even if the limit is somewhat porous).<br><br>Another Mastodon account? I'd like to have this account not on Mastodon, basically.<br><br>Misskey and forks? (Firefish being one.) Maybe, but after having used Firefish for about two years, I think those are great if you're a community on the same server (i.e. most people on the same server know and follow each other), otherwise, there are too many functions I end up never using. Also, the problem with the API is the same as with Firefish, I believe.<br><br>The new IceShrimp (the dot NET one): I'd love to try it, but it's still in beta (anyone knows of a server where I can see what it looks like?)<br><br>Something else?<br>GoToSocial? I admit I'm not too familiar with it. It's what screen readers used by blind or visually-impaired people read out loud as they can't "read out loud" an image. It's what people see instead of the image if the image doesn't show for them (text-based client, too slow Internet connection, whatever).<br><br>Alt-text should never convey more information than the image which it is a replacement for.<br><br>An image description that goes into the post itself is not alt-text.<br><br>I don't see any rule or part of the "Fediquette" or "Mastodon culture" that speaks against adding that additional information to a reply.<br><br>Whether it works or not depends on whether your customers accept it or not. I guess that 99% of your aspiring customers in the Fediverse will be on Mastodon, only see your start post and not be bothered to check the replies. So my suggestion is to leave room in the original post for tellling your customers that prices can be found in a reply to that post.<br><br>But seeing as this will happen to you a lot, it may be worth looking for someplace that offers you more than 500 characters:<br><ul><li>a Mastodon instance with a raised character limit</li><li>Pleroma (5,000 characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li><li>Akkoma (5,000 characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li><li>Misskey (3,000 characters, hard-coded; just steer clear of misskey.io)</li><li>the various forks of Misskey and forks of their forks like Iceshrimp or Sharkey (thousands of characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li></ul><br>If you need a five-digit character count, the best you can do requires basically re-learning the Fediverse, mastering a significantly steeper learning curve and very likely abandoning dedicated apps. Sky - Your Infernal Majesty<p>Manche Menschen bevorzugen Mastodon – einige von ihnen sind fest davon überzeugt, während andere das gesamte Fediverse noch gar nicht richtig kennen. Dann gibt es wiederum diejenigen, die sich darüber aufregen, dass so viel über Mastodon geredet wird, weil sie selbst das ganze Fediverse schätzen und es nicht mögen, wenn eine Plattform so stark im Fokus steht.</p><p>Aber mal ehrlich, liebe Leute: Könnt ihr nicht einfach akzeptieren, dass jede:r Nutzer:in ihre bzw. seine eigene Meinung und Entscheidung hat? Muss wirklich jede Diskussion darüber ausarten, ob Mastodon „die eine“ Plattform ist oder ob es nicht vielmehr um das gesamte Fediverse gehen sollte? Könnt ihr nicht einfach zulassen, dass jede:r ihre oder seine eigene Reise durch das Fediverse macht – mit all den Umwegen, Entdeckungen und persönlichen Vorlieben?</p><p>Natürlich ist es schön, wenn ihr die für euch passende Plattform gefunden habt. Aber warum reicht es dann nicht aus, sich einfach darüber zu freuen, anstatt immer wieder zu betonen, wie falsch es angeblich ist, von Mastodon zu sprechen, anstatt das Fediverse als Ganzes zu nennen? Oder gar darüber zu urteilen, dass manche bewusst bei Mastodon bleiben wollen?</p><p>Und ihr, die Mastodon-Hardliner – auch ihr dürft es gerne etwas entspannter angehen lassen. Es ist großartig, wenn euch Mastodon begeistert, aber man muss aus dem Rüsseltier keine Religion machen. Ja, Mastodon ist eine tolle Plattform, aber auch die anderen Netzwerke haben ihre Vorzüge – genauso wie sie ihre Schwächen haben. Und genau deshalb haben sie alle ihre Berechtigung. Dieser ewige „Klassenkampf“ zwischen den Plattform-Nutzer:innen ist auf Dauer einfach nur ermüdend und bringt niemanden weiter.</p><p>Lasst die Menschen doch einfach in ihrem eigenen Tempo das Fediverse erkunden. Jede:r geht diesen Weg anders – einige bleiben bei Mastodon, andere ziehen weiter und probieren Neues aus.</p><p>Ich selbst habe damals auch mit Mastodon angefangen. Jahrelang war es mein Zuhause, bevor ich begann, andere Plattformen zu erkunden. Manche fand ich großartig, andere haben mir überhaupt nicht gefallen. Und am Ende?
