Text reads: For the Grand Louvre, the inherent structural stability
of a pyramid emerged as an important starting point as
Pei strove to build 'a structure that was as transparent
as technology would allow'. With a square base
measuring 34.2 metres on each side and reaching
21.6 metres in height, the pyramid is composed of
a criss-crossed web of pre-stressed cables and 128
interlocking trusses, aligned diagonally behind the
seams of the outer layer's diamond-shaped glass
panes. This steel space frame utilises a relationship of
tenseğrity-simultaneous tension and compression-
that ensures the structure's stability while minimising
visual obstructions. The pyramid's structural system is
enclosed by non-weight-bearing glass that is supported
entirely by the steel members
