I don't have any philosophical objection to strategic voting — so long as you only cast a ballot for someone you wouldn't be ashamed to have as your MP. It's strange though to hear it raised by NDP supporters at this point. Don't people realise that at present the Liberals have very strong odds of winning <a href="https://cosocial.ca/tags/elxn45" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>elxn45</span></a>? <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.world/@338Canada" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>338Canada</span></a></span> gives 1% odds of a <a href="https://cosocial.ca/tags/Conservative" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Conservative</span></a> gov't. C.<p>I need to say this. When reading this, keep in mind that I have previously declared that there is no Canadian political party which represents my beliefs. Pournelle's two-axis political alignment shows why, and I've mentioned that before.</p><p>That is to say, this is not a partisan effort to support or attack any particular party.</p><p>Ahem:</p><p>Pierre Poilievre is a snake. The comments about him never having actually done anything of value, living off of the federal government's largesse in one way or another, are true but miss the point.</p><p>He is completely unprincipled. His "deeply held beliefs" are whatever he thinks at this moment are most likely to get him elected. Trying to determine what he actually believes is the classic nailing-jelly-to-the-wall. It can't be done.</p><p>He spent the last several years running on nothing but "I'm not Justin Trudeau, and don't you hate Justin Trudeau?" (Keep in mind I was, and am, deeply critical of Trudeau) He did this because it appeared likely to be all that was needed to win, and if you don't actually take positions on anything, you can't be criticized for them.</p><p>He also minored in Trumpism - culture war issues. Looking south, do you think that means PP *really* believes in a woman's right to choose? That all people are equal? That no groups are "othered"?</p><p>You can't pin him down, so assume the worst.</p><p>PP cannot be allowed to lead this country. But the differences are striking too.
