One way to stave off a disaster is to reduce fecundity but all current political frameworks from through , , to ideologies are all focused on benefits gained through labour. To avoid a holocaust we need to divorce economic progress from individuals' labour, foster self actualisation through art and other non labour focused human self expression so that even those who cannot / can no longer work can benefit. Any ideas?

@Lupposofi A couple of years ago, I coauthored a paper trying to measure the applicability of the #aducanumab (#Aduhelm)'s results applied to the real world practice of a #geriatric outpatient clinic (with special focus on older persons with #cognitive impairment). Less than 1% of patients were potentially eligible. And this on the top of the unclear/arguable effects...

Another reason why the #US #prison #system need #reform. Thousands of #people sentenced to much longer prison terms as a result of the 1994 #crime bill and other "tough on crime" incentives are now considered #geriatric.

While prisons are racing to adapt their environments to support the needs of their #aging #population, they are also needing ways to pay for it. This is on top of the already well known #problem that prisoners typically receive substandard #healthcare.

One thing that is clear is this is one of the symptoms of a problem of how this country has chosen to punish people.

Video from Uri Burstyn (aka Helpful Vancouver Vet) about some particular care items relevant to older cats. It's a bit lengthy but I find it interesting. as I have found most HVV videos. He used to post them frequently; I hadn't seen one from him in a long time and the start of this one touches on that. This one is from a few months ago.

After 73 years of marriage, this couple is forced to live apart. #LongTermCare (LTC) issues. This was happening long before the pandemic.
10 years ago my mom's #LTC roommate had a husband of 50+ years who was place into a facility across town. It was tough on the whole family.
It's worse for those who don't have kids or family who can advocate for them. They'll just never see each other again.
I bet a study would reveal this is, and has been, fairly common. It's devastating to the couples.
Placement of couples needs to be reformed.

CBCAfter 73 years of marriage, this couple is forced to live apart | CBC NewsAn Ottawa couple has had to live in separate care facilities for 19 months despite their children's efforts to reunite them, which one doctor calls a "human tragedy."

#dog #dogquestion my mom is in her 80's, lives independently in a condo with a porch, has lots of friends in the building and gets irregular, massive bouts of depression with a little bit of psychosis thrown in. She's decided that she wants a small dog for companionship and I support that with some caveats. I'd really like her to get a breed that might be inclined to alert on her mood changes. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?
