Day 2 of making #diy charcoal #ink:
Used this one bigass log from our firepit, scraping off the chips, and crushing them with another smaller log lol.

The ink without any additives (just water) rubs off quite easily. Much like liquid charcoal does of course :p

Adding sorghum and/or honey makes it stick to the paper better! But dilutes the color and yellows it a bit. Might be good for making brown 🤔 added some rubbin' alcohol to deter mold.

Right now I'm trying to make it more pigmented. I think there's a maximum amount of darkness with plain charcoal - you have to use soot for BLACK. Must do more research. Gray is good for midtones of course, and I always have black on hand and never wanna mix gray for myself :P maybe it'll be good to keep this gray batch for my ink washes.

Of course, you have to test your ink by drawing Squidward.

I have my XOXO 2016 Field Notes in rotation with my Retro 51 roaring 20s (number 113) currently

I had a pack of these maybe seven years ago and they never left their plastic wrap, which caused me to sell them

Found a pack recently and ykno what? This design is TOO BEAUTIFUL not to use. So I bought them

So here we are

I’d probably do this even with a Firespotter.. would you?
