I would think the most obvious thing is the financing. Elon Musk can divert the Niagara of money still flowing into AI to prop up and keep the platform running. Not only that everything going on on the platform is now an experiment for these freaks ideas of controlling entire populations.

It seems that the former Twitter content was already a big source for xAI training, so they were working closely together. @EricFielding @Nonilex @GhostOnTheHalfShell @Daojoan @pluralistic yeah, seen that but a) it doesn't really explain much ("details remain unclear") and b) biz journalists don't have the best track record when it comes to reporting on private market deals like this, especially when confronted with someone who lies and exaggerates as much as musk and without an SEC filing whose honesty is enforced at the point of a gun to rely on.

The Guardian article provides some more background for people like me who have not been following the situation. I left Twitter in November 2022 and tried to ignore it since then.

He’s not directly tied into the Silicon Valley clan. I don’t think I’ve seen anything that ties him to the neo reactionary cult.
What Bezos does have is the huge fully functioning techno feudal economy in Amazon. He has the real logistics down in that company to run more or less an economy.
The guy from Silicon Valley they’re clueless. They really are clueless. They don’t have that expertise.

tbh i bet bezos is *stoked* to watch elon's public reputation implode like this. Blue Origin is always hiring and working at SpaceX now comes with a level of social opprobium that will encourage some of their engineers to make better life choices.

Yeah, you know I don’t have much of a sense of what’s motivating him to go into space. It may be something closer to a pure boyish that is to say childhood love of Space. He’s got all the nerd qualifications on that end.
It would be interesting to get a read on his motivations to get into space. I think Bezos is driven by very practical business objectives unlike the guys from Silicon Valley
