Russia seeks more weaponry for its war in #Ukraine, & a delegation from #NorthKorea recently traveled to Russia by train to plan for #Kim’s visit this month to discuss the possibility of #supplying Russia w/ more weaponry for its war in Ukraine & other #military cooperation, acc/to ofcls from #America & #allies.
In a rare foray from his country, #Kim would travel from #Pyongyang, #NorthKorea, probably by armored train, to #Vladivostok, #Russia, where he would meet w/ #Putin, the ofcls said. Kim could possibly go to #Moscow, though that is not certain.
Putin wants Kim to agree to send Russia #ArtilleryShells & #AntitankMissiles, & Kim would like Russia to provide North Korea w/advanced #technology for #satellites & #nuclear-powered #submarines…. Kim is also seeking #FoodAid for his #impoverished nation.
On Wed, the #WhiteHouse warned that #Putin & #Kim had exchanged letters discussing a possible #ArmsDeal, citing declassified #intelligence. A WH spox, John F. Kirby, said high-level talks on #military cooperation between the 2 nations were “actively advancing.”
…The new info about a planned meeting between them goes far beyond the previous warning. The intel relating to the plans has not been declassified or downgraded by the US, & the ofcls describing it were not authorized to discuss it.…
While the WH declined to discuss the new #intelligence, Adrienne Watson, a #NSC spox, said in a stmnt that Sergei #Shoigu, the Russian defense minister, traveled to #NorthKorea… to try to persuade #Pyongyang to sell #ArtilleryAmmunition to #Russia.
“As we have warned publicly, #arms negotiations between Russia & the #DPRK are actively advancing,” she said. “We have information that #KimJongUn expects these discussions to continue, possibly to include high-level diplomatic engagement in Russia.”
