Lots of attention lately on NYT OpEd by Jeffrey Sonnenfeld who just coined the brilliant phrase on #DeadlineWH: “#Trumpaganda”
Dr. Sonnenfeld is the president of the Yale Chief Exec Leadership Institute.
“Recent headlines suggest that our nation’s #business leaders are embracing … #Trump.
That is far from the truth.

“His campaign would have you believe that our nation’s top chief #executives are returning to support Trump for #POTUS, touting declarations of support from some prominent financiers #SteveSchwarzman & #DavidSacks.”
“That is far from the #truth. They didn’t flock to him before, & they certainly aren’t flocking to him now. #Trump continues to suffer from the lowest level of #corporate support in the history of the #Republican Party.
“I know this bc I work w/ ~1k chief #executives a year, running a school for them, which I started 35 yrs ago, & I speak w/ #business leaders almost every day. Our surveys show that 60 to 70% of them are registered #Republicans.
The reality is that the top #corporate leaders working today, like many #Americans, aren’t entirely comfortable w/either #Trump or #POTUS #Biden. But they largely like — or at least can tolerate — one of them. They truly fear the other.
“If you want the most telling data pt on #corporate #America’s lack of enthusiasm for #Trump, look where they are #investing…. Not a single Fortune 100 chief exec has donated to the candidate so far this year, which indicates a major break from overwhelming business & #executive support for #Republican presidential candidates dating back over a century, to the days of Taft & stretching through Coolidge & the Bushes, all of whom had dozens of major company heads donating to their campaigns.
“#Trump secured the WH partly by tapping into the #anticorporate, #populist messaging of #BernieSanders, …a move that Trump discussed w/me when I met him in 2015. The strategy might have won voters, but did little to enhance Trump’s image w/the #business community. & while a number of chief execs tried to work w/Trump as they would w/any incumbent #POTUS & many celebrated his move to cut the #CorporateTax rate, wariness persisted.”

back in FEBRUARY, TIME published a #JeffreySonnenfeld piece:
'It’s Misguided to Say That #CEOS Are Warming to #Trump. Here’s Why'
“…even after the collapse of Trump’s #business advisory councils in Aug 2017, triggered by the exits of #Merck’s Kenneth C. Frazier, #Disney’s Bob Iger, & #Unilever’s Paul Polman, among others horrified by Trump’s kind words to the #WhiteNationalists at a #Charlottesville rally.
Uh, yeah, I've been saying for years now that Trump is a fascist populist, just as Bernie is a socialist populist. They're different, sure, but the populism is the same, and it shows.
