Acc/to another informed source of #AFP, "hate & conspiracy messages" were blamed on the French researcher by #US authorities. An #FBI investigation into him was announced, for which "the charges have been abandoned," continues this source.

@Nonilex This marks the end of the scientific conference in America. There were already states whose anti-Trans laws excluded them as locations -Florida, as an example, but this knifes the entire conference industry in the back. Canada it is then!
@Nonilex Feels like maybe we should have had a nationwide protest in favor of the First Amendment when everybody turned stupid about The Dixie Chicks talking openly about their opinions of Bush.
Maybe somebody in power would have recognized the danger.
@Nonilex Also extra important we all remember that all it took to trigger the secret arrest and seizure provisions of the Patriot Act was the use of the word "terrorism".
Under that law it was a crime for your landlord to tell you that the reason your place is trashed was because law enforcement searched it or for a witness to your arrest to tell anybody what they'd seen.

I agree with the comic and just don't think it's fair to use the term "neanderthal" to mean brute when we don't know what they were like really.
@futurebird @Nonilex Honestly, there's a lot of evidence that they were actually not just intelligent, but taught us a lot of things like better toolmaking and such.
In other words, they pretty much were the research department that is being killed off by the new people in charge misrepresenting them.
