Director of National , Director & Director are testifying before the Intelligence Cmte again Wed amid fallout over senior national officials sharing messages about a strike over an unsecured group chat w/ ’s .

addressed the fiasco in opening remarks, referring to ’s previous comments & noting that he has “taken full responsibility.”

, in an interview w/ FauxNews Tues night, said a staffer wasn’t responsible & that he was taking “full responsibility” & that he made a “mistake.” But he insisted that ’s number had been erroneously added to someone else’s contact.

“I built the group,” Waltz said. “My job is to make sure everything’s coordinated.”

" advisor has taken full responsibility for this, & the National Security Council is conducting an in-depth review, along w/technical experts working to determine how this reporter was inadvertently added to this chat," testified this morning.

maintained that info was not shared, but called the conversation "candid & sensitive."

"There were no sources, methods, locations or war plans that were shared," she claimed. "This was a standard update to the cabinet that was provided alongside updates that were given to foreign partners in the region."

also said that is pre-installed on government devices. (wtf?)

She referred to a pending lawsuit as a reason why she would be “limited” in commenting further on the issue.

Well done Rep !

During the Cmte hearing, asked why was not included in the annual Report. Castro cited ’s invocation of the to conduct & Trump’s claim that he could invoke the because he believes we are at with Venezuela. Castro asked that if we are at war with a country how is it possible that they didn’t warrant entry in the assessment.

Rep , the top on the Committee, asked , the director of national intelligence, about her testimony on Tues that precise details about the attack were not included in the chat, given the new release of messages that contradict that. “My answer yesterday was based on my recollection, or the lack thereof, on the details that were posted there,” she said.

Himes hammered away on the idea that the timing of the attacks was as “” under community rules. said she didn’t disagree but reiterated that material was posted to the chat by Secy of , & that he is in charge of declassifying material from the .

John , the director, said the newly released portions of the chat show that he did not share information there. “My answers haven’t changed,” he said. “I used an appropriate channel to communicate sensitive information. It was permissible to do so. I didn’t transfer any classified information.”

said the officer he had added to the chat was his chief of staff, who is not serving under cover. While he chastised for making it look as if he had revealed information by including the name, the magazine said it had withheld the name at the urging of the agency. The CIA typically asks that the names of most of its officers be kept secret to preserve their ability to serve overseas in undercover roles in the future.

In the hearing, Rep , of Texas, took issue with the intelligence officials saying the information in the chat on the strikes was not . “You all know that’s a lie,” he said. “It’s a lie to the country.”

While Rep Raja Krishnamoorthi, of IL, spoke, he displayed an oversized printout of the texts published by this morning. referenced the graphic multiple times while questioning Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse, director of the Agency, on whether the information detailing operational plans was or not.

Kruse admitted his agency would define the type of information shared as classified.

Rep , of Colorado, asked if she was traveling during the time of the attack & the discussion. She said she was traveling in Asia, but did not recall what country.

Crow made the point that the have been able to shoot down U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drones, one of the weapons used in the strike on & got to say she knew Houthis had that capability.

Nonilex

showed the advanced air defense systems the have, & then said it was outrageous that the admin was not accepting responsibility for the leak. “It is a leadership failure, & that’s why Secretary , who undoubtedly transmitted sensitive operational information via this chain, must immediately,” he said.

Ridiculous

Sean Parnell, chief spox, shared a statement while traveling w/ Secy in the western Pacific:

“It’s no surprise hoax-peddlers at the Atlantic have already abandoned their ‘war plans’ claim. These additional chat messages confirm there were no classified materials or war plans shared. The Secretary was merely updating the group on a plan that was underway & had already been briefed through official channels.

[Parnell stmnt cont]

“The American people see through the Atlantic’s pathetic attempts to distract from President ’s agenda.”

Several retired military commanders have pushed back on the claims that the details in ’s messages were not classified.

2/2

in the hearing are mostly ignoring the chat. Rep , Republican of Texas, was one of the few to even bring it up.

“I will note I always use fire emojis when I see terrorists getting killed,” he said.

🙄

Rep , CA, asked if or had any info as to whether Sec had been drinking the day he texted clearly information on .
Gomez’s question resulted in an explosion of feigned indignation from Ratcliffe–accusing Gomez of inappropriate behavior. Gomez replied ’s alcohol abuse was a concern to Americans & he’d sworn in his confirmation hearing he’d quit. Yet, Hegseth recently appeared at a podium in Europe w/a drink.

, dir of natl , was put on the spot by Rep of the Virgin Islands, who asked if was a friend or adversary of the . On Tues in the , Gabbard called Russia a “competitor”. But today, when asked to choose between the 2, Gabbard admitted Russia was an adversary. That wouldn’t be asked of any other admin, but ’s criticism of & praise of Russia & Gabbard’s past parroting of Russian propaganda makes it necessary.

This idiot 🙄

spouts off on social media:

So, let's me get this straight. The Atlantic released the so-called "war plans" and those "plans" include: No names. No targets. No locations.

said the release of the additional screenshots by today “were a refresher on what happened.” But she said she stood by her responses to the yesterday, when she said she did not recall that the chat included the timing or order of the strikes on the .

Earlier, Rep reminded them they’d been in office for less than 2 months & this all took place just 10 days ago.

said she didn’t play a “specific role” in the chat because she was traveling. But she also pushed a new defense. The material presented in the chat, she said, was being shared w/regional allies at the same time as it was being shared w/cabinet members. “The decision to conduct this operation had been made long before that conversation took place,” she said.

“I do take my responsibility very seriously, & played an integral role in providing the communities assessments that led to the ultimate decision by the president to conduct an operation which, by the way, was very successful & continues to be very successful,” said.

Yikes, even with all of this going on hasn’t even bothered to find out that is an app. He has no freaking idea what he’s talking about.

Sen , of MS & the chair of the panel which has of the , says that he & his Democratic counterpart will request an expedited investigation by the Dept of Office of Inspector General into the group chat. Wicker & Sen , Democrat of RI & the top Dem on the cmte, are also seeking to hold classified briefings on the matter.

It’s unclear who will oversee the investigation because fired the IG at the Pentagon.

will hold a news conference at 4PM, the White House press secretary announced.

The only thing I can predict is that it will be painful to watch.

Sen , D-CA, is requesting information from Dir of Natl & US Special Envoy about whether they used on personal devices as part of their jobs & is questioning whether the 2 were abroad during the chat involving 's .

denied having a personal device w/him during his trip to , saying in a social media post that he had only a govt-issued secure phone during his travels & suggesting that was why he did not comment in the group chat for a period of time.

Witkoff's post was responding to an op-ed in The WSJ, which referenced media reports about Witkoff "receiving these messages on the commercial app while in Moscow."

wsj.com/opinion/signal-leak-ho

did not confirm in the post whether he had been using on a govt device or personal device. But when recounting why he was silent for portions of the group chat discussion, Witkoff said it was "because I had no access to my personal devices until I returned from my trip."

Witkoff's post also comes after Sen sent a letter to & him requesting info about their use of Signal & travel by March 31.

Via CBS:

has repeatedly tried to compromise

arrived in shortly after noon local time on March 13, acc/to data from the flight tracking website FlightRadar24, & Russian state media broadcast video of his motorcade leaving Vnukovo Interntl Airport…. About 12hrs later, he was added to the "Houthi PC small group" chat on Signal…, to discuss the imminent military op….

/ screenshots first show contributing to the group chat on Saturday, after he left & returned to the , with a stop on Friday in Baku, ; however that does not mean he wasn’t opening the app & reading the thread.

Secy of said in remarks today in Jamaica that someone made a “big mistake” adding 's editor-in-chief to the chat that contained info about a attack on the in .

Unlike everyone else in the admin, he didn’t defame .

"Obviously, someone made a mistake. Someone made a big mistake & added a journalist. Nothing against journalists, but you ain’t supposed to be on that thing," Rubio said.

said he contributed 2X — 1st when he identified his chief of staff as his point of contact & 2nd when he congratulated the team after the attack on the .

"I’ve been assured by the & everyone involved that none of the information that was on there — though not intended to be divulged. Obviously, that was a mistake & that shouldn’t have happened. But that none of the information on there at any point threatened the operation or the lives of our servicemen.“

Asked if the info shared in the chat was classified, said, "Well, the says it was not. And not only did they said it was not, they made very clear that it didn’t put in danger anyone’s life or the mission. There was no intelligence information. And understand, when this story first broke, they were sort of alluding to, were there war maps? ... There were no war plans on there."

@Nonilex

"#Hegseth’s alcohol abuse was a concern to Americans & he’d sworn in his confirmation hearing he’d quit."

An #Alcoholic lying about his drinking?

Certainly that has never happened before

@Nonilex

the "warrior" ethos: bloviate, lie, call people names. utterly pathetic.

@Nonilex This is what happens when you get a drunkard with divorced middle-aged dad energy in a responsibility position.

@Nonilex So they could have just been doing this conversation publicly on TV? None of it was a secret from anybody?

Or was there still a protocol being violated?

@Nonilex She an evil ho, you can tell just looking at that presumptuous cartoon hairdo

@Nonilex
Hell, he probably has it in his phone with Putin and Kim on permachat

@Nonilex Agree 💯. Also, it will be a lie filled word salad with an idiot dressing.

@Nonilex I might just waft some cosmic vibes out there. C'mon, lightning...

@Nonilex
A raining shitshow with fireworks for sure

@Nonilex He can't fight this one head on, he's got to have a distraction lined up. New tariffs or actual imminent attacks on Canada or Greenland, maybe more bullshit about elections?

@Nonilex

yeah. he shows less humanity, poltical savvy, and technical expertise than the "gong show"...

my cat has vomited hairballs that could do better press conferences.

@Nonilex And like Maddow said...that "painting" he delivered to the WH? WTF? You know it's bugged in an undiscoverable way

@BlueWaver22 @Nonilex

Orange T's admin? They probably know and don't care.
Wait a week, then have some reporter ask about it, and - don't interrupt - Russia's orange auto pen as he's describing it.

@Nonilex

MAR shows up twice logged into signal. Did he have possession of both devices or apps? If he is this stupid, how stupid are his deputies?

@Nonilex When rubio behaves like the adult in the room

@Nonilex "The team at MAL did a great job as well." Bleuch!

@Nonilex The weak spot are the endpoints. That he carried his phone into Russia makes that endpoint considered to be compromised. What Wi-Fi did he connect to, what cell interceptors did he pass by? Did he leave his phone unattended or physically hand it to a Russian immigration officer? The texts are decrypted on his phone. And his phone is likely to be compromised, so the decrypted texts can be exfiltrated by the malware. He’s likely to keep using that phone as he goes to top level meetings back in the US. Microphones turned on, etc. We have paranoid security exports for a reason. Start respecting them.

@Nonilex Sorry. Shouting into the void. I’m sure most people here already understand all those problems.

@obviousdwest @Nonilex Did you mean to say "did he physically hand it to his russian handler"?

@Nonilex #Signal is very much a secure messaging app, but it’s no more secure than the OS it is running on, and it can’t protect one from sending information to someone who should not have access to it. It also does not meet the security or record-keeping requirements for classified government communications.

@Nonilex
So his personal phone was left ungaurded with the signal app running?

@Nonilex

"The corruption of man is followed by the corruption of language." Emerson, "Nature," 1836

@Nonilex

Thanks. I think a lot about this quotation these days.

@Nonilex Since we are living in season two of “The Apprentice DC”, maybe he’s going to vote someone off the island. Will it be Waltz for fat-fingering invites to the group chat… or Whiskey Pete for not noticing a national security breach while it stared him in the face? Or maybe he’s announcing that a solid gold “do-over button” has been installed on his desk and no one is being fired this week.🤷🏻‍♀️

@jeaux @Nonilex if patterns from the last time we all endured this hold he'll wait til Friday to fire someone if that's what happens, and he'll do it via internet post (whatever they call tweets over there, idk).

No, this will be the one where he says a bunch of nonsense, presumably makes some unhinged announcement of something unrelated, in an attempt to divert attention from the current scandal.

@Nonilex Pure speculation from me, but: Despite all the dismissive language of the past few days, the genuine seriousness is probably being impressed upon them hourly. I'll expect to see some 1st rate squirming. No accountability tho. Just mental(!) gymnastics while he twists himself into taking opposing positions at the same time.

@Nonilex

No !
It will be a Star Hour for all #Comedy #Fans. #signalgate is a #Gift to the #ComedyWorld like never before.

@Nonilex

Why should this one be any different than all his other ones??

🤮 🤦

@Nonilex
There's still an office of the IG to handle things... learned that yesterday.

@Nonilex JFC this moron is like a stuffed puppet with an broken Eliza* bot built in...
