Instead of complaining about Democrats on the internet all day, I attended my county Dems’ yearly endorsement event prior to our spring primaries and met candidates for mayor, city council, local offices of many kinds, and local judicial candidates. I also turned in petitions.

We had great turnout including a fantastic group from our local Young Democrats.

I support protests and all else people are doing and participate myself but if we don’t vote and get other people to, it’s all for nothing.

@TonyStark This times a fucking thousand. ⬆️ ⬆️ ⬆️
Get ready now so you can in every race from the dog catcher on up! Make sure everyone you even vaguely know is registered. Don’t just talk to Dems. I made this graphic in 2019 & I suspect it’s going to be even more true in the races up to & including Nov 2027

@Pineywoozle If we talk to just the people who already voted Dem, nothing happens, and that’s mostly who you’re going to meet at many of the protests (no offense to anyone there.)

You have to go where other people are- set up at community events or places people are. Join the League of Women Voters and FFS everyone needs to message in a coordinated, positive way.

“I hate half of Democrats but I want you to vote for them” isn’t it. Republicans solidify and if we want to win we have to, too.

@TonyStark @Pineywoozle A propos speaking to people who are not on the same page as us: I phonebanked for the special election in FL-06 today. What really resonated with voters there is that Josh Weil is a school teacher. I didn't only talk to Democrats. A lot of people are worried about what's happening to schools if not for their kids, then for their grandkids.

@tobie1 @Pineywoozle Thanks, Tobie!

Great point and thanks for doing that.

@TonyStark @Pineywoozle I'm grateful to Weil.for having the courage to stand for election in a red district. Folks in the district told me they've seen his signs, so he's giving the Republicans a run for the money. Good on him.

@TonyStark I’m shy, so when I’m out amongst the humans, I only buttonhole strangers that are within shouting distance… 😉

One of the things I learned during the Tea Party years is that if you want to make in-roads with your neighbors, talk about traffic and pot holes in the streets, and safety getting the kids to and from school.

It’s amazing how everyone holds those things in common, and they start to see you as a person —just like themselves— and not as a “Demoncrat.” (I really got called that once!).
