@happymilk It would require a constitutional amendment to eliminate it directly. There could be state level changes to how electoral votes are assigned, such as giving them to the national popular vote winner. But Republicans know they would probably never win another presidential election if that was adopted nationwide.
@gwynnion @happymilk@mastodon.social Republicans depend very much on keeping those parts of the Constitution that are there for historical reasons and are not suited to modern conditions.
Notice also how their law pundits preach against paying heed to modern conditions. They do it slyly, by calling it "originalism" rather than by a more proper name such as "retro-calendarism".
