The group’s founder, #JasonFoster, spent years attacking the #DOJ investigation into whether #Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign coordinated w/the Russian gov. Its president, #TristanLeavitt, is a #GOP candidate for WV’s state House who boasts on his LinkedIn page about his investigations of #HillaryClinton.
Foster & Leavitt are veterans of #Republican congressional oversight who have worked w/a variety of good government orgs over long careers. But Dems say they now are part of a little-scrutinized #FarRight ecosystem that has directed a barrage of criticism at federal law enforcement agencies as a #DOJ special counsel seeks to convict #Trump on charges he mishandled #ClassifiedDocuments & #obstructed #justice.
“The same group of #MAGA #lawyers work in close coordination w/the same #HouseRepublicans to recruit & fund the same sorts of ‘whistleblowers,’ all as part of a campaign to protect Donald Trump,” said Rep. Jerry Nadler of NY, the ranking Dem on the #HouseJudiciary Cmte.
Recently, #EmpowerOversight has worked closely w/ #HouseRepublicans in championing 2 #FBI agents who portray themselves as #whistleblowers & who lost their #security clearances over concerns about their sympathy to the #Jan6 Capitol rioters. Dems & other critics say they are not whistleblowers at all.
