A Line-by-Line Breakdown of #Trump’s #BirthrightCitizenship Executive Order
Like a clogged sewer erupting into the streets, Donald Trump returned to office on Mon, &, as promised, unleashed his filth upon the country. In a flurry of #lawless, #unconstitutional, #racist, #bigoted, #violent, &, in some cases, plainly stupid #ExecutiveOrders & #pardons, Trump set his reign of #terror in motion. The future we feared has officially arrived.
#law #14thAmendment

#Trump’s activity is, as always, designed to keep people distracted, defensive, & demoralized. He did so much stuff in the opening hours of his junta that the #media can’t process it all, & Americans can’t keep up. It will take the courts literal years to process the lawsuits against his administration based on just its first half day, & we already know that the media is a Dr. Moreau monstrosity that has the attention span of mosquitoes, the memory of goldfish, & the courage of chickens.
I cannot tell you the worst thing #Trump did in his first hours—“the worst” is a subjective assessment….There is, however, one #ExecutiveOrder that attempts to nullify an entire constitutional amendment by fiat….
“Protecting the Meaning & Value of American Citizenship”—better known as the #BirthrightCitizenship executive order—attempts to cancel the #14thAmendment to the #US #Constitution. Getting rid of constitutional amendments via executive order is new, &, for me at least, “the worst.”
@Nonilex The
@Nonilex is he even actually able to do that, under constitutional law?
@capnthommo @Nonilex Does that matter? Also no.
@Nonilex the obvious unconstitutionality distracts from the inhumanity of creating a permanent stateless racial/hereditary underclass. Which is, of course, one of the central goals of the entire conservative movement.
[your dog’s face is so beautifully smoochable!]
@theothersimo@mastodon.social @Nonilex@masto.ai If they thought they could get away with it, they'd openly re-legalize chattel slavery.
@zakalwe @theothersimo @Nonilex it's already legal:
"The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution abolished slavery, but it included an exception: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist, it declares, except as punishment for a crime. Prison rights advocates say this exception allows for forced labor in prisons."

@zakalwe @theothersimo @Nonilex ..if you ever wondered why black and brown people are disproportionately targeted by police, this is why.
@Nonilex
Junta is right...he turned the US into a third rate Third World banana republic overnight... We know Europe is laughing tbeir ass off right now...then wondering about NATO.
@Nonilex
On the bright side, all those lawsuits probably also mean that the crap executive actions are enjoined until they make their way through the overburdened courts.
@Nonilex let us know when he is no more.
@Nonilex the good people of USA, thru stupidity, laziness, ignorance, lost the easy battles to save the country...impeachment, ballot box, legal system. The game is now different...niceties of filing briefs, holding elections, protesting for/against a cause, sue, will continue...but with ever diminishing impact. Consequence of the decent majority having lost easy battles to preserve USA is that the battle to regain our country will, sadly, be bloody, long, difficult, uncertain....
@Nonilex Isn’t “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” also excluding foreign diplomats with immunity? Otherwise solid.
