#Musk's team may access US #Education Dept systems, judge rules
A US judge has rejected a bid to bar #DOGE, the govt downsizing team created by #Trump & spearheaded by #billionaire #ElonMusk, from accessing internal systems in the US Dept of Education that house federal #student #FinancialAid info concerning millions of Americans.
[neither Trump nor Musk ever needed student loans or went to public school]

Washington-based US Dist Judge #RandolphMoss declined to issue a temporary restraining order sought by the University of California Student Assn to prevent the dept from disclosing info to #ElonMusk's #DOGE.
The #student group's lawyers had argued that the #Education Dept's decision to grant DOGE access to student data violated obligations under a federal #law called the #Privacy Act of 1974 & the Internal Revenue Code to protect the sensitive personal info of borrowers.
But Moss…said the group presented no evidence "beyond sheer speculation" to support finding that staffers w/the dept or #DOGE would misuse or improperly disclose info they are obligated by #law to keep confidential.
The judge cited a declaration by Adam Ramada, a DOGE employee, who said that the 6 people working w/his team to help audit for waste, fraud & abuse at the #Education dept & assist senior leadership in obtaining data understand they must comply w/laws governing the disclosure of info.
Adam Pulver, the #student organization's lawyer at the group Public Citizen, said in a statement that despite the judge's decision, the #litigation would continue and that "nothing in this ruling suggests that #DOGE's access to sensitive student data is #legal."
"As the case moves forward, we expect to learn more about just what DOGE is doing with the data students provided the department with an expectation of #privacy," Pulver said.
#Trump has called for shutting down the #Education Department, calling it "a big con job." He has nominated former Small Business Administration chief & professional #wrestling executive #LindaMcMahon to head the department, which was created in 1979. At her Senate confirmation hearing last week, McMahon echoed his calls to abolish it.

[again, Trump never went to public school, he has no clue what he’s talking about]
@Nonilex who needs education?
Certainly not a dictator. Populism depends on the ignorance of the population.
Before they retired, my parents taught at private schools: mom taught at one, and dad taught at another. I attended one school until 1st grade and then transferred to the other. Both schools waived tuition for children of employees.
Like Donald Trump, I never attended public school. Unlike Donald Trump, I think we should fund the Department of Education instead of abolishing it. Also unlike Donald Trump, I recognize that I'm not an education expert and defer to those who are.
I bet the experts agree with me rather than Dunning-Kruger-in-Chief.
