(By the way, Mastodon doesn’t do fact checking *either*)
I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t understand the logic of “Facebook doesn’t do fact checking any more so I’m going to delete my Facebook account and use Mastodon instead”
I mean, obviously, I don’t *prefer* that people use Facebook. I just don’t understand the above logic.
I guess if you, like, researched all the public mastodon server and, like, picked one with strict moderation rules, and, like didn’t follow anyone who wasn’t on that server, then I guess you’d have fact checking, or something?
But, like, be serious now
@litherum I think the real concern is that they now condone hate speech.
@stilescrisis @litherum definitely this, but I think it hasn't been talked about as much because the details of that have been intentionally harder to come by. https://hachyderm.io/@dalias/113801880491394036
@kainino0x @stilescrisis @dalias
What happens on Mastodon if someone says these things?
@litherum @kainino0x @dalias Admins tend to ban you?
@stilescrisis @kainino0x @dalias
Well the admin of one’s own server isn’t really an effective deterrent, because the hateful people can run their own server or whatever
I suppose the admin of *other* servers would ban the hateful posts from appearing to anyone on *their* server
Which means I guess it’s up to the users themselves to create their account on server with an admin that would do so
@litherum @stilescrisis @kainino0x It is because getting banned loses all your followers & ability to migrate them.
If you run your own abusive instance, it'll quickly get blocked by well-moderated instances.
@litherum @kainino0x @stilescrisis You get banned. Or if you're on an instance that considers that ok, your whole instance gets banned from most of the rest of the fediverse.
@litherum Why use and give money to a corporate alternative if it isn't even holding itself up to a higher standard than open community systems?
