This early flowering shrub—a #FloweringCurrant or #RibesSanguineum—is an extremely important early food source for many different types of insects, nut just the pretty bumblebees.
It is really important that we support the insects in our gardens. The loss of species and numbers that we have already caused is frightening.

People believed it was bad luck to bring this beautiful plant indoors.

In the Victorian language of flowers, currant meant 'Thy frown will kill me'.
