Look-up view on red metallic stairs linking two of the spheres of tha Atomium in Brussels. The Atomium is a Landmark modernist building in Brussels, Belgium, originally constructed as the centrepiece of the 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Expo 58). The Atomium stands 102 metres (335 ft) tall, making it one of the tallest structures in Belgium. Its nine 18-metre-diameter (59 ft) stainless steel clad spheres are connected in the shape of a unit cell that could represent an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times Steel tubes connecting the spheres enclose stairs, escalators and an lift (in the central, vertical tube).

A typical late-afternoon thunderhead boils up over Darwin city, a towering cumulonimbus in an otherwise lightly clouded sky. My butterfly amaryllis this morning.

I raised this amaryllis from a small bulb I purchased 4 yrs ago. I wasn't sure if it was ever going to bloom but amaryllis foliage s quite lovely on its own.

Definitely worth the wait

This variety of amaryllis has six-pointed, teardrop-shaped petals that create a trumpet-like star structure and radiate from a center with long stamens and a pistil that droop down and across the top of the lowest petal. Each petal is a pale lime green with maroon edges and feathering that is dense near the flowers center and becomes streaky towards the petal tips. The stamens are white with tan anthers and the pistil is white with a white stigma.
